Privacy Policy

This website is owned and run by Diane J. Holland, an independent author based in the UK ("I", "me", "my"). This policy explains what personal data I collect from visitors to this website, why, and what rights you have over it. I try to collect as little personal data as possible, and I never sell your data.
1. Who is responsible for your data
Diane J. Holland of Ivybridge, Devon. I am the "data controller" for the personal data described in this policy.
2. What information I collect
Depending on how you use this site, I may collect: Contact form enquiries — your name, email address, and the content of your message.
Website analytics — anonymised or pseudonymised technical data such as your approximate location, browser type, and pages visited, via an analytics tool, e.g. Google Analytics.
Cookies — small files stored on your device to help the site function or to gather analytics (see Section 6).
I do not knowingly collect any special category data (such as health or financial information) and this site is not intended for children.
3. Why I use your information, and my legal basis
Replying to your enquiry: Legitimate interest (responding to enquiries you've made)
Sending you my newsletter: Consent (you can withdraw this at any time)
Understanding how the site is used, to improve it: Legitimate interest / consent for non-essential cookies.
4. Who I share it with
I don't sell or rent your data. I use trusted third-party services to help run this site, who process data on my behalf:
Mailerlite, to send emails to subscribers.
Wix, to host the site.
Google Analytics, for anonymised visitor statistics.
Some of these providers may be based outside the UK/EEA (for example, in the USA). Where this is the case, they provide appropriate safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or equivalent Standard Contractual Clauses.
I will only ever share your data with other parties if required to by law.
5. How long I keep your data
Contact form enquiries: Up to 12 months, or until resolved.
Newsletter subscribers: for as long as you remain subscribed, and then deleted or anonymised within three months of unsubscribing.
Analytics data: retained in line with the relevant provider's standard settings.
6. Cookies
This site may use cookies to:
- Remember your preferences and keep the site working properly (essential cookies); and understand how visitors use the site, so I can improve it (analytics cookies).
- Where cookies aren't essential, I will ask for your consent before they're set, and you can change your preferences at any time via the cookie settings.
- You can also disable cookies through your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work as well as a result.
7. Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- Ask what personal data I hold about you, and get a copy of it;
- Ask me to correct inaccurate data;
- Ask me to delete your data ("right to be forgotten");
- Ask me to restrict or object to certain processing;
- Withdraw consent at any time (for example, by unsubscribing from the newsletter using the link in any email); and
- Ask for your data in a portable format, where relevant.

If you're unhappy with how I've handled your data, you also have the right to complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), at ico.org.uk.
8. Changes to this policy
I may update this policy occasionally, for example if I start using a new service on the site. The date at the top will show when it was last revised. Please check back from time to time.
